About the Artist, Rosine Smith
Authentic Caribbean Art, Prints, Books, Textiles, Cookbooks…
Rosine Smith was born on the island of Antigua, but now resides in the Virgin Islands. She was always fascinated with the culture, and style of the people of the islands and she began painting, writing, telling, and illustrating her “stories of the islands” at an early age.
She is a highly skilled fibre artist as well as an accomplished painter. She works in several media; exploring a myriad of styles. She says: “I love working with acrylic paints. I have tamed it to the point where I can have my finished piece resemble the most delicate watercolor or the richest oil painting. Most of my Acrylic pieces do look like they are done in oil. I take a long time to complete those pieces because I layer thin washes of paint until I trap the light and the painting looks rich and brilliant….”
Rosine has no formal training in art, but she holds a B A Degree in Accounting from The University of the Virgin Islands. She taught Computer Applications at the Day-adult Education Center for many years, and has also worked as a Computer teacher, as an Accounting Teacher, and as an Art teacher, in several public and private schools.
